Spiritualist Camp History

1874 - 1987


1874   Organization of Joint Stock Spiritualist Association.
1880   The Spiritualist, by this time, had a well organized society and had acquired their own building (Wonewoc's first frame school building, erected 1857.) J.T. Potter was lecturer. Exact date of their beginning here unknown.
1893 The Joint Stock Spiritualist Association acquired the first 24x30 rods of land on bluffs just east of business section (their present location.)
1902 Western Wisconsin Camp Association organized on April 24th. The first Camp Meeting was held July 12th to 28th.
1903 Second Camp Meeting held August 13th to August 27th.
1907 Dr. C.W. Sanderson elected president.
1910 Incorporated as Western Wisconsin Camp Association, July 25th.
1914 An additional 8x20 rods of land purchased, adjoining the first on the south.
1915 Purchased another 5x30 rods of land. Auditorium enlarged at cost of $507.44.
1918 Five rod strip of land to highway purchased.
1919 Purchased 22 additional acres of land.
1921 Fireproof storage house erected.
1924 New well-house and automatic water system constructed, at cost of $644.00.
1926 Andrew Jackson Davis memorial rest room and library erected at cost of $1,500.00.
1928 Dining Hall built at cost of $1,800.00.
1950 Comfort station erected, cost $6,500.00. (Outhouses were in vogue before this.)
1958 New office building erected. (Before this, Secretary had to use a tent.)
1979 Cold running water installed in cabins.
1987 Sewer lateral for proposed 12 room motel and extension to present cafeteria. Motel built in 1988?
1999 Name change from Western Wisconsin Camp Association to Wonewoc Spiritual Center.
